Dear colleagues,

The ancient Greeks made the weaknesses of their gods prominent and as such

they allowed humans to perceive the functioning of the mental apparatus. In the present day, hundreds of years later, “Aerton” envisions to give prominence to the profound contribution and influence of the Greek heritage to the sciences of psychology, psychoanalysis and psychotherapy, following in the steps of its founder, Sigmund Freud.

The 1st International Psychoanalytic Symposium “Freud on the Acropolis” is being held on 28 & 29 September 2019 at the Acropolis Museum.

The aim of the Symposium is twofold. On the one hand, it aims at discussing interesting and contemporary themes on psychology, psychoanalysis and psychotherapy through the presentations of eminent psychoanalysts from Greece and abroad.

On the other hand, it aspires to promote our cultural heritage worldwide in a scientific way by emphasizing the breadth of the Greek culture’s contribution to the scientific community.

Terminology, names and symbols, ancient tragedies and myths of the ancient Greek culture have been the main inspiration for the birth of psychoanalysis, and it is our duty to highlight this. For this reason, a large part of the symposium is the experiential visit to the Acropolis Rock.

On behalf of the Organizing Committee, we are honored to invite you to participate in this effort to promote the contribution of the ancient Greek cultural heritage to psychoanalytic thinking.

Sincerely,

Chairman of the Organizing Committee

Stavros Kevopoulos

Psychologist

Member of the Institute of Classical Psychoanalysis
